Salaried or Contract Editing Positions

Principles and Practices

If your organization needs professional editing and is interested in my services, please read my statement of principles and practices before contacting me regarding my availability.

Principles:

  • I do not accept editing assignments where speed is considered more important than quality.
  • I do not sign off on any document until I am satisfied that I have edited it to the best of my ability.
  • I will not copyedit any document that has not been through a thorough and substantive editing pass, whether by myself or by another editor.

Practices:

  • I prefer to work from home, though I may be willing to work onsite if telecommuting cannot be arranged or if face-to-face contact with colleagues or clients is recommended.
  • For communications regarding content, I generally prefer e-mail to phone.
(As a written medium, e-mail provides a record of communications and offers maximum clarity and precision.)
  • I require flexible working hours, within reasonable limits.
  • I only accept onsite positions in King County, WA.

Rates:

Negotiable, depending on a variety of factors such as benefits plan, commuting distance, and length of assignment. My usual rate for part-time employment or for assignments of short duration--where no benefits are offered--is $45 per hour.
